Character Information

Name: Hypnos
Canon: Hades
OU/AU/CRAU/OC: OU

World info: Hades, the underworld from ancient Greek mythology. The gods are real, and a number of them manage the underworld that dead mortals end up in.
History: -Son of Nyx, Goddess of Night. Brother to Thanatos and Charon.
-Rules over sleep.
-Also serves a greeter for the newly dead and is supposed to manage the line of supplicant shades.
-Mythologically speaking, twice put Zeus to sleep at the behest of Hera in order to trick him.
-Put the entire House of Hades to sleep one night so that Zagreus could snoop around.
-Will in the future reconcile somewhat with Thanatos and Nyx, who have been disappointed in his conduct.
Canon point: Early game: Zagreus has attempted to break out a few times but has not yet succeeded.
Age: Real Old, being a god. Around at least as long as there have been beings who need sleep.

Personality: First impressions of Hypnos are probably that he doesn't seem to take much seriously. He's frequently asleep on the job, despite his boss Hades not being the lenient type, and poorly denies having been asleep when woken up. He's easily distracted and rarely actually enforces order on the line of shades that he's supposed to be moving along. He tends to ramble, and is tactless about sensitive subjects like dying repeatedly. He makes lots of jokes, especially about dying repeatedly.

It's not that Hypnos doesn't care - he does care, quite a bit. He was willing to put the house to sleep to help his friend Zagreus, despite how much trouble that could get him in. He longs to be regarded well by his brother and mother, and gets very excited when they say anything remotely complimentary or are willing to spend time with him. He sympathizes with the shades and is reluctant to cut their supplications short. His advice to Zagreus, however obvious (don't get hit) is well-meaning, intended to help him next time as well as lighten his spirits.

He's bad at reading the room or picking up on subtlety, but spell out exactly what you want him to do and he'll do it. He's used to being insulted for his lack of capability (especially compared to his brother Thanatos, model employee), so acts or words of genuine kindness overwhelm him.
Character changes: He might, with effort, learn to be slightly more tactful about dying, at least around mortals who are sensitive about that kind of thing. Most likely, having more than one real friend will mean he isn't so overwhelmed by basic kindness.

Capabilities: Can put even beings on the level of gods to sleep, in large numbers. Can influence the dreams a person has, good or bad.

Sample: Test drive.
